How to Move from a Sedentary Lifestyle to an Active Lifestyle

If you really want to know who the real superheroes are, look no further than women. Women have the ability to care for families, manage the workplace and keep up with their social circles with intentionality and genuine concern. However, it’s not uncommon for women to allow one thing to slip through the cracks: self-care. Unfortunately, there are many women who put themselves last on their list. This leads to fatigue, weight gain and depression. If you’re a woman who can relate to these issues, know that you’re not alone. One of the ways this can change is through making sure you’re not living a sedentary lifestyle. Consider these tips to get started.

1. Take breaks at work.

If you have to sit at a desk for hours on end, it’s easy to get stiff, gain weight and feel lethargic. Instead, designate time for a few breaks throughout your workday. For five minutes, give yourself a chance to do some jumping jacks and stretches. Five minutes might not seem like a long time until you’re doing a rotation of jumping jacks. Movement gets the blood flowing.

2. Sign up for different classes.

Consider all of the physical activities you’ve always wanted to try. Sign up for gymnastics. Find a retailer that sells leotards for women. Enjoy the art of learning a new skill as you remain active. Create a curriculum for yourself. For a few months, take gymnastics. For another few months, get tennis lessons. All of these classes will breathe new life into a body that’s been sedentary for so long.

As you start using these tips on a practical level, you’ll begin to look and feel better. Hopefully, these tips will be the beginning of a ripple effect. Whether you’re purchasing leotards for women or taking a walk around the block during your lunch break, remember to put yourself first.
