Whenever you’re facing criminal charges, you should always look for the very best defense attorney to represent you. In addition to looking for someone who specializes in criminal law in Ottawa, there are other factors to consider. This guide will help you choose a lawyer who has the skills and experience to give you the best possible defense.
Ask for Referrals
To get started, create a list of potential attorneys to consult. You can start by asking friends, relatives, and co-workers if they have had to hire criminal defense lawyers in the past. If you don’t get enough recommendations that way, you can also conduct an online search.
Look for Specialized Experience
Now that you have a list of potential lawyers, you should start narrowing down your options. You can begin by eliminating attorneys who don’t have experience handling your type of case. For example, if you’re facing a homicide charge, an attorney who primarily handles DUI cases may not be the best person to help you.
Check Past Client Reviews
You can read reviews about attorneys who specialize in criminal law in Ottawa on Google, social media sites, and other third-party websites. This will tell you what clients liked about each attorney, and you’ll discover what common problems they may have had. This helps to limit your choices to only attorneys that provide the highest level of service to their clients.
